Well, it was nice while it lasted.

Things I've learnt in the last few months:

  1. I can speak Dutch, but I will always be 'dat buitenlandse vrouw'.
  2. It's never clever to work for friends.
  3. One should not be a doormat.
  4. Saying 'yes' when you mean 'no' is a bit dumb.
  5. If you didn't get paid in the first few weeks the situation is unlikely to magically reverse itself.
  6. It must be very miserable living on minimum wage.

Things I am looking forward to enjoying again:

  1. Shopping and lunching with friends!
  2. Working out at the gym.
  3. Drinking endless cups of coffee in restaurants.
  4. Working in my garden.
  5. Being more available at school (ie. pestering the teachers).
  6. Cleaning my house.
  7. Cooking and baking.
  8. Taking photos.
  9. Blogging!

So here's to more of me and less of the flowershop.

PS. That up there is my new favourite song.

Well, those are some good lessons.

Except the first one. That can't be true. Right? Nah. It can't be.

See you tomorrow! :D

I hope it didn't end too badly. My first real job in Germany was in a flower shop. I loved the actual work but in the end most of the things you listed came in to play and I quit.Enjoy your free time.

Ash, sorry to hear it didn't work out. Hopefully the positives outweigh the negatives. I for one am glad you'll be blogging again.

Hey here Delilah! What a song. Is Maroon ... whatever they are?

It must be hard to feel betrayed by a friend. I do hope that at least you like to gained knowledge about flowers and making bouquets (sp?).

About 1/; can be true, but doesn't have to be bad - depending on the prejudices they have about the country they think you originate from. To be honest; it exists even about regions and I'm not sure that happends only in the Netherlands.

My sister lived on minimum income for a few years and I remember when she found a paid job after a few years. She got burglared and the thief stole money - and she was mainly extatic that she has so much income that she could still buy food till the end of the month. A few months isn't bad, but after a few years your cloths wear out, your household equipment falls to bits, the dentist really needs to do some expensive things...

Song is very nice btw. Sad, but nice.

What a nice song! Who is it? I must have it for myself!

"Dat buitenlandse vrouw" - see, this is why I stopped trying. I'll never be one of them, so why not just speak the language we both know better anyway? Bad attitude, maybe, but I feel your pain.

I think your heart and your talents are bigger than a flower shop can hold.

Love this song. Makes me wish I was 19 again and BELIEVING in love.

I'm sorry to hear things didn't work out. I agree that working with/for friends can be a bad thing. I have had both negative and positive experiences with it and I am very cautious about ever repeating it.

Take what you've learned from the experience and put it to good use :)

Speaking of coffee... I think I'll be in A'dam next week. Want to meet and have a cup with me?

It's never nice when your job suddenly ends, but circumstances like this always make it worse. I hope you feel like you got some good experiences from it, and I hope you find something else soon.
