My favourite things

My favourite brand
When I was little my gran had all these gorgeous perfumes, powders and lotions. She'd assembled them for every birthday and Christmas since 1913 and had used absolutely none of them. Ever. I couldn't do that. I have my favourite things and I use them all.

I bought this 'favourite thing' on Saturday when I was feeling a little down. l'Occitane is one of my favourite shops. They used to be only in Amsterdam and Utrecht but recently they opened a store in the Rembranthof in Amstelveen.

This shop is quite different to their other stores having more glass frontage and less of the cosy, Provencal feel of their other shops, but the products are still the same. Gorgeous!

So I treated myself to some Verbena handwash for the kitchen.

Here you see it above the sink and next to the scrubbing brush, which has become a necessity since I started working with flowers and plants all day.

I also bought their Spiced Orange Candle, which although somewhat pricey, lasts for absolutely ages. I think I buy one a year?

The scent is strong but not overwhelming and especially on darkish days, the orange glow as the wick melts down into the candle makes the day seem more interesting.

When they're burned down I use the left-over candles to scent my clothing.

What are your favourite pick-me-up things to buy?

What perfect timing! Just yesterday I thought that I need to find a new scent for the living room. Spiced orange sounds absolutely perfect! Thanks for the idea - I just might have a NEW favorite thing to buy!

I buy a bunch of in season flowers. This always cheers me up and is something that I can enjoy for several days.

Oooh, those are great. You have wonderful taste! When I need an exercise pick-me-up, it's new music. It gets me moving again. When I need an emotional pick-me-up, it is often art supplies. When I have something new to work with, I'm more apt to get my creativity flowing and feel better all the way around. And if that doesn't work? Wine. Never fails.

I LOVE L'Occitane! I especially love the verbena line (the cooling lotion is awesome) and their lavender stuff. Yummy!

I love the L'Occitaine range. We had the same liquid soap last year. They also make a fabulous almond oil shower gel that is really good and soothing at the end of a long day.

My great aunt also had such a collection. I'm with you - the things we treasure are those we should enjoy using daily. Therein is the pleasure. :)

Colorful bits, or things that smell just right cheer me up. Cedar and grapefruit are smells I love and that perk me up. But usually if I buy something to cheer myself up, it's something for someone else. :)

I love verbena - we have a lemon verbena tree in our garden. I dry the leaves. You pour hot water over, add a bit of honey and it's a delicious tasting tea. Sometimes I also add a little bit of fresh rosemary and/or ginger.

My favorite pick-me-ups are the lemon grass truffles from Puccini chocolates in Amsterdam.

I also love the figuier (fig tree)-scented candles from Diptyque.

I buy chocolate - we have a wonderful little shop near us. However I do think that scented candles are maybe a lot better for my waistline!

Anything Lush (http://www.lush.nl). Especially their dream wash, dream cream and honey soap.

And Yankee candles. In food-scents; pumpkin spice, orange, cocoa, and for winter, jack frost... yum!
