Magic, mazes, skateboards and boys ...

Sometimes there are things in life that you think... wow! The person who invented that needs a medal, or a Nobel Peace Prize or something.
Take for instance the maze.
You think they were invented to keep nobles in the middle ages all entertained while they sashayed around? You would be wrong.
The person who invented them really invented them to give harrassed parents a place to put their children, call it 'play', and watch while they merrily run around trying to find their way out. *
This is best done from a vantage point above the maze.
Then you can lazily lift one eye from the hilarious and completely engrossing Life & Times of the Thunderbolt Kid, and call out enthusiastic encouragements, like 'turn left a bit further on' as the children lead themselves deeper and deeper into the maze.
If they happen to find their way out you can always mention that they didn't find the platform in the middle and how much fun it would be if they went back in. That gains you another ten minutes at least.
When they come out the second time, produce a lolly and send them back in. Their reflexes will be slowed by concentrating on consuming as much sugar as possible and it will take them twice as long to exit the maze as it would have done without the distraction.
Once they're onto your diversionary tactics, you could take them to be biffed by some baby goats at a goat farm (and call it 'fun'! o wat leuk is dat!) and then you could make them skateboard 2 kms back to the car, to add to the 2 km they skateboarded getting to the goat farm.
Finally, at 8 pm you can put them in bed, at which point they go to sleep amazingly quickly.
Magic, isn' t it?
*Jane, this is conjecture, not fact!

LMAO, touche!
That sounds like a wonderful way to spend the day. Although I would definitely try out the maze myself first so I would need more idea to keep the kids engrossed while I still got time to read. I think I would scatter a box of little pill-shaped mints around... (my diversionary tic-tacs, if you will)*
Those skate boards are amazing, I have never seen anything like that here. The handle is such a clever idea. I need one of those! Where do they come from?
*I am also painfully punny and corny! *efg*
Ash: LOL at the diversionary tic-tacs! I have to try that! Maybe we'll go do that today!
Hmm, I think I could do with a maze right now. I have Lily on holiday for two weeks and Daisy's decided to be on holiday too. A nice maze to exhaust them while I read would be a good thing.
Thanks for the Sisterhood introduction by the way. I will soon be receiving my first book!
That sounds like a great place! Where did you go? I'd love to see it!
I have very fond memories of gettin 'biffed' by goats as a child =)
When the boys grow up they may discover that a maze can be a truly romantic spot for a rendezvous, like I did.
Okay, I'm tearing out our backyard and putting a maze in. It's settled. ;)
I love your style!
We have two mazes within shortish driving distance of us, next time my friends (who have a hyperactive child) come up from the country I think I will suggest we go to one or the other for the day...
Is this the maze you went too?
I might visit that one with ours, they like mazes on paper ;)

Where did you go? Sounds great there!
I've fond memories of being biffed by goats as a child!
