8 (more) random facts about me

by Ashleigh

Notwithstanding the weirdness that you've come to know and expect, I was tagged by Herschelian to reveal another 8 random facts about myself.

Here goes:

  • I can't comfortably watch tv in the daytime. This comes from years of conditioning by my dad.

'One should be doing something other than watching tv with one's time.' or more likely, 'What are those bloody kids doing watching tv? They should be outside!'

The only time I feel a bit less confined by this rule is when it's wintertime and we can't go outside or here in Holland where it's dark at 4 pm in winter. Then I have licence to watch tv!

Good thing the internet wasn't around when I was a kid or I would have a guilt complex about blogging too!

  • I don't like kissing. Not the peck on the cheek kind, the other kind. Really, I don't. Maybe I just haven't kissed the right person yet.
  • I am compulsively tidy, although it's worn off a bit. My ex used to say that I got into a 'Sunday morning frenzy' where I tidied everything up. I don't do that anymore, much.
  • I always feel that I should be doing more more more. More of everything. More with the kids, more with my life, more to make other people's lives better. I never think that what I do is enough.

I suppose I'm a classic perfectionist with incredibly high standards. This usually means that I overcommit myself and I can't say no and then I end up overstressed.

  • I miss sewing, I miss eating bread and I miss going to the gym. I wish I could do all three.
  • I love flowers. Which is a good thing as I start work on Monday part time in the flower shop round the corner. When I was little I wanted to be able to buy fresh flowers every week, and now I'll be getting them as part of my job. Wheee!
  • I spend a lot of time worrying about the choices I have made for my kids - which schools, which extra curriculars, which friends.

In the end all I want is for them to be happy, but I also know that being happy depends on a certain level of achievement and I definitely don't want to feel that my choices may have limited that.

I think this level of worrying is typical of 'moms of our time' though, so I try not to panic about it.

  • I love the Netherlands. I really do. I didn't when I first arrived and I felt like everyone was strange and worse, that I was even stranger!

Now I've settled into a rhythm here and I love it. My adopted country has spaces of incredible beauty. Even more incredible is that these beautiful areas exist within and between such heavily populated areas.

If you feel like joining in and revealing yourself... err... your random facts, please do!

Man, I could have written that.

Well, almost.
I mean, except for the kissing part and the flower shop part.

Other then that - well, I guess I'm just weird too. Or random. Whatever you want to call it :p.

You took a job in a flower shop?! How cool is that! I've been wondering about the other job, and meaning to contact you but ... I've just lost all track of time. Sorry. :(

I don't like kissing either, but I try to keep that to myself. I've got a breath/mouth thing.... Yech.

I can most associate with not watching TV during the day and also the perfectionistic thing... Kissing is nice, except if the other person is a smoker - ugh!!! Least I don't have to go through that anymore ;)

I think I found your blog when I was searching for info about how to crochet granny squares. I'm attempting to crochet ;-) Finished my first project; an 'omslagdoek'. Extremely proud of it..:-) But now I'm ready to graduate to something 'more difficult'. But without anyone who can teach me, the only way is internet. Still trying to find a ridiculously easy pattern, preferably with pictures or even a video! LOL!
I really liked reading your posts. It must not be easy to live here. I lived in Canada for 8 years and then we moved back to Holland again. I miss my beloved friends in Cambridge Ontario every day..:-(

Hi Ashleigh

Yes i miss Holland too, thinking of the iceskating I used to do as a child drinnking hot chocolate and the avondvierdaagse and shopping all that stuff and yes I used to be tidy too but I was looking at that pony and then I be thinking of the press in my bedroom and in that press is an orphaned kitten.
A friend of mine called a few weeks ago, they had found a baby kitten and brought it to the vet and off course I could not leave it there as it would have been put down so here I was having to bottlefeed this kitten every two hours. So did not get much sleep, not to mention the housekeeping, going around like a zombie, trying to tell everyone to keep doors and windows locked, but the photo's of hte kitten are worth the time I spent on it.
And if anyone in Holland happens to find a baby kitten just tune into www.kitten rescue.com on the internet and all your questions will be answered.
You won,t need a vet anymore.
In Ireland kids can not do iceskating as the rivers are too wild. How ever they do have marathons. And once i do my other hobby beads I totally forget I have a house to clean.
Mostly for charity's that is.
I worked many years ago on markets and a flowershop. Lovely job.
But the little kitten is adorable and so far he survived as bottle feeding cats rarely survive.
We do not know how old exactly he is but he is for sure in his fift week today.
I will sent you some pictures of Bailey through the net and maybe when you write an article about cats you may want to show the adorable pictures.
Very hard to look after a kitten in this household as they have to have a certain warmth. and kept away from other animals and that is very hard with 3 dogs and two other cats.
So it keeps going from room to room but my press in the bedroom is the best place at the moment. As it is handreared and can pick up airbugs from the other animals.
So if any one has a problem like me just tune into the website i mentioned before.
