Mama's Day

Football Krommenie 2007

It's Mother's Day. We got up very late this morning after spending yesterday at a football tournament - in which our team placed second. Yay boys!

It was the 2007 version of this one. Have a look and see how my boy grew! We were so lucky with the weather. It rained on the way there and it rained on the way back, but it stayed miraculously dry while our teams were playing. Absolutely amazing!

They played against four teams, Sporting Krommenie, SVA 2, Knollendam 1, and WSV'30 2. Seb was keeper for the whole match and this time our team was so good that there were only a few times that the opposition approached the goal. They drew two matches and won two. It was a great result!

Seb is very proud that he has another medallion to add to his collection, and is anxiously looking forward to getting another pin when he walks the Avondvierdaagse in a few weeks.

So this morning we had buckwheat pancakes (like stones, sadly) with strawberries and I opened my gifts. The audience was on tenterhooks to see if I liked what they had made.

They're so funny; Joe can't keep a secret so if you ask him directly what's inside the packaging he'll tell you; while Sebastian goes to immense lengths to create suspense about what's inside the package and where it's hidden. Such funny little creatures. Seb's exasperation at Joe telling what's inside and Joe's absolute inability to keep it a secret.

So I knew what the parcels were before I opened them but that didn't change how sweet it was to see what they made me.

Joe made me a bracelet from elastic and beads, which I've sadly misplaced. I think it came off at the garden and I didn't notice. He says he will make me another one. It was presented in a cigar box decorated with shells.

Funny, I remember making a cigar box decorated with shells in kindergarten myself ... all those years ago ... Look at the way he writes his name. The J is always reversed, and he says his name is Toe.

Seb decorated a ceramic tile with a picture of an aeroplane flying in the sky, trailing a flag saying 'Mama & Sebastian' with the cutest verse on the reverse. He stuck paper squares on the sides of the tile in his favourite colour, orange, and mine, pink.

Sweet boy. The poem was written in his own hand, and he apparently had to write it out twice because the first time it didn't fit.

Here's the verse in case you can't read his writing:

M is van mond die zachtjes kusjes drukt
O is van ogen die kijken lief en verrukt
E is van echt liefde, die zit in je bloed
D is van denken, wat je aan ons zo vaak doet
E is van je eigen kind, je geeft een zoen
R is een goed reden, om voor ons alles te doen.

Finally, a gift from all of them, and one I requested, in lieu of food, because a person on a diet really can't have food was ... a new camera! One I can put in my pocket unlike the husband's midlife crisis camera ... We stuck with Fujifilm and got the F10. More megapixels, less physical space taken up, more memory ... I like it already!

Happy Mother's Day to all the mama's all over the world.

If you're over 34, please think of mamas in ZImbabwe, whose average life expectancy you've already exceeded.

A new camera! oooooh! :-)

And, aren't those handmade gifts the sweetest. My R-man was all nervous, after keeping it a secret the whole meivakantie, which was *really* hard for him. Beyond cute.

very nice gifts, what a shame you lost the bracelet. maybe you will find it again..

I read the article about zimbabwe, it is so horrible, that I can simply not imagine how life must be like there now. Do you still have friends and relatives there?

Ash: I do, my whole family still lives there! I asked at school and they will make me another bracelet today :)

That is so sweet! It's exactly the same here, Timo can't keep a secret, never ever. And the other two are devious little oysters!
And a new camera! Wow!
