... and the world didn't stop.

Sebastian 7th birthday

We told him that he wasn't really seven until just after 2 in the afternoon because that's the time that he made his entrance into the world. He was not impressed with the idea of waiting another eight hours to be seven, but at the same time realised how sad it was that he would never be six again.

Sebastian is an old soul. An old soul who likes to keep everyone happy, thinks deeply about things, understands the art of compromise (rare at any age!) and loves his family deeply. Let's hope those traits continue as he grows up.

To celebrate the birthday we went to watch Night at the Museum. It was a pretty cool movie. Lovely special effects and really suitable for all ages, except for a few scary bits with the dinosaur at the beginning.

When Robin Williams' character appeared Seb leant over and asked if we could watch Aladdin again. How is that for association? Robin Williams does the voice for the genie in Aladdin.

For lunch I made pancakes, and accidentally broke the glass citrus juicer that my mom gave me 15 years ago. I was pretty sad about that because it's one of the few things I have from my mom that was portable enough to withstand moving four countries. Oh well, such is life I suppose.

Dinner was pizza from Dominos and a bought Kabouter Plop cake. He has been wanting this cake from the freezer section in the supermarket for ages, and as we ate the kiwi/lemon sponge cake the day before I got this one for the candles. The sweet potato pie is on the cards for today.

Gifts were books, Hama melty beads, a booklet of Hama bead ideas, and a kit to make a marble run.

We made a deal about the Nintendo DS - if he saves half we'll pay the other half. He likes that idea and it sits better with us as it's good for kids to learn the value of money.

Thank you for all the comments and suggestions on whether to give the DS as a gift or not. They really helped!

On Wednesday he has his party for his school friends. 8 kids, an ice rink, hot chocolate, more cake and candles, a skating lesson....lots of fun! If I survive it there will be more photos and an in-depth report.

Here's a video of the blowing out of the candles.

Seb looks a little disturbed during the singing of the Dutch 'Lang zal hij leven' because Brad's singing the girl version! (Classic hij/zij mixup - very useful if you are a foreigner and are not entirely sure of the gender of someone - you can pretend you just don't know which one you should be using!)

The video and photo quality was very bad, the lighting was poor inside. Hopefully I can get better photos and videos on Wednesday.

Glad to hear that the birthday went well. I don't think I'll make Max wait till his actual birth time, which was around 4 am, to celebrate. ;)

Can't wait to hear about the skating rink - what a cool idea! (No pun intended - LOL!)

Happy Birthday Seb!

I got the idea of celebrating your 'birth minute' from Everybody Loves Raymond. I think it's a great idea.

I am impressed by the authentic sounding Dutch singing and how comfortable you guys are to be recorded, especially singing. Brad has quite a good singing voice too. I hate singing in public and being recoded even more-so!

Enjoy being 7 Seb.
