Palmpasen The kids getting ready to walk for Palmpasen

It's Palm Sunday this Sunday. Our kids are at a Catholic school so we get to celebrate these things completely free of charge (or religious obligation). Except for the mental tax of accompanying a class of 32 overexcited kindergartners (kleuters) to the old age home to present palmstokken*.

I walked this morning with our class, who sung beautifully and presented their palmstokken to the aged.

The aged were at times not completely with it, but I think they enjoyed it.

I have once again, a renewed respect, you could even call it reverence, for the teachers. Wow. Taking care of that many kids is hard work!

More Paas (Easter) coming up ... Paasontbijt at school on Thursday, plus an easter egg hunt, plus easter eggs being handed out by the OV (PTA).

* A palmstok is a stick (ours are cross shaped) decorated with greenery, pictures, chocolate eggs, fruit, and bread. You can read about them in English here. Scroll down a bit.

What do you do with your kids at school for Easter?

I'd almost become a Catholic for all the fun celebrations they have ;))

I always look forward to the egg hunt in the backyard, first thing on Easter morning. The kids get so excited!

My kids do nothing at school - one son goes to a preschool where most of the children are Asian. And my other son goes to a huge international school where most of the kids are Asian - but they really do it up right for Chinese New Year!

Uhm...nothing? Although all three are at a Catholic school (son nr 1 even at a school originally founded, and located next to this grand church & monastery,). All these celebrations are held out of the school and although we will receive notes that ask for our participation it is all voluntary and not school-oriented.

Although the village-school over here is not of any religion, almost every Christian holiday is celebrated. The kids (just group 1-4) will walk the walk on Sunday-afternoon, so out of school time, it's organised by some volunteers (partly teachers). Our daughter is too old to participate (she's sorry for it) and our son just wants to walk to eat all the candy, raisins and so on (that are decorating the stick) afterwards. So we told him if we give you everything in a bowl, do you still want to walk....NO. So we won't go Sunday (I'm not really into this sort of thing)
