Seas of vomit and lack of tranquillity

Winter Amstelpark

The flu season is upon us.

Yesterday I was unwell, although I managed to avoid talking to Ralph.

Not so with Joe. He was having extended conversations with him. Unfortunately he didn't actually make it to the Big White Phone.

That boy has supernatural vomiting capabilities. He hardly ate anything yesterday, yet at 11pm produced bucketloads of the stuff.

Stuffed toys, sheets, pillowcases, pillows, blankets, duvets, mattress covers, carpets, nothing was safe.

He even managed to get it to run down the sides of the bunk bed and onto the bed, pillows and covers, of his terrified (vomit phobic) brother.

I was tempted to just throw the sheets and pillowcases away, but that would be counterproductive to my frugality efforts.

Looking at them, all crusty and disgusting and having to scrub them with a brush to remove the thicker bits .... I suddenly felt like maybe wasting stuff could be my 'thing' after all. I gave myself a stern talking to and did the scrubbing.

Loads and loads of laundry later, tumble dryer working overtime on that feather pillow, which smells musty and disgusting, two kids at home watching tv and I can still smell vomit everywhere.

I think it might be in my hair...

EEEEUUWW!!! You poor gal! One more reason I never had kids - I wouldn't have been able to clean up after them without adding to the mayhem..bad enough when hubby gets sick. I run to the other end of the house with my hands over my ears! Can't stand the sound, let alone the smell!

Ugh!! I am SO glad that only I had the vomiting part of this illness. I can't stand cleaning that stuff up. Ugh! Frugality or not, I'm afraid I'd have pitched the lot of it! You take care, okay! And we'll get together during "your" vacation next week. :)

LOLOLOLOL- Sorry for laughing ,but I have been there and done that and totally get the picture. Bravo to you for actually washing everything and not just pitching it. I have ,on occasion, done both.

Wow! What a time you had! (We were there for about 3 weekends in a row- NO FUN!) Hope your boy feels better now (and got to eat lots of yummy spinach)Hang in there & hope you lose that 'lovely' smell real soon:)!

Ash: Thanks Sue! The smell is gone, but the washer and dryer have been working overtime. I just have to take one rug to be cleaned and then we're all done! You had it three weekends in a row?! And you're still alive? Yikes, I hope that doesn't happen to us!

Poor you!

I am afraid I don't handle sick very well. I would have relented and thrown it all away.
The smell might stay with you for a while - I swear it stays in your nostrils!

Ash: Thanks Jo! Finally it's gone. I think I washed everything we own to get the smell to go. At least he didn't throw up on the cat!

We had a whole lotta vomit going down in January, so I know how you are feeling. Well done for resisting the temptation to toss the sheets away - I know I would have felt the same. Oh and isn't it amazing how kids can produce tons of the stuff even when they haven't eaten much that day ...

Oh, poor Ash! Your description takes me back to when my kids were really little. I can't even begin to count the number of loads of vomit-filled bedding I've washed. Hope you're all feeling and smelling better now. :D
