Heart to heart ...

We're deep in little boy Valentine fever here. One made a drawing to take to his girl, the other made a card with the inscription 'I think you are beautiful and funny and sweet' on it for his girl.
I had to go and buy a special heartshaped marshmallow lolly for the latter and we smuggled it into school for him to give her at playtime.
I'm sure this girl will break his heart. When they had a lover's tiff a while back and he was sighing and flinging himself about moodily here at home I asked hm what was wrong and he toldme and then he said, 'but Mama, she is just so beautiful'.
Oh, young love, how sweet thou art.
And for the little boys who are my Valentines?
Cupcakes. Naturally.
I used a heart shaped silicon mould for these and unfortunately, it's destined for the junk pile, and it's taking the other silicon moulds from the kitchen cabinet with it to keep it company. I don't know what it is about them but they just don't work for me.
I tried my orange nutella cake in the larger heartshaped mould I have from Tupperware. It didn't release properly and the cake took a very long time to cook through. The cupcake moulds also didn't release and the batter rose unevenly. I think we'll stick to normal metal pans and cupcake liners in the future.
The recipe is a standard cupcake batter, equal quantities of butter, sugar, flour and eggs plus a few spoons of milk, vanilla, baking powder and baking soda.
I hollowed out the tops of the cakes, put some raspberry jam in and used a meringue based icing for the tops of the cakes to get pretty swirls. The heart shaped dragees are from a local chocolatier.

Those are so sweet!
Happy Love Day...
I wish I was your valentine! I'm drooling over those. :) YUM!
My only problem with silicone bakeware is that I never ever get all the PAM spray off of them. So they discolor and seem a bit slimy. Do you know what I mean?
Do you buy baking soda in Holland? I usually have some shipped from the US in my Christmas box.
Sweet cupcakes! Together with Barbara I was thinking: is Seb early or are my boys clueless?
Ash: well, this particular little girl has been his friend since groep 1 so I think it's more friendship than anything else. But then again - he is convinced he will marry her and have 6 children, all of which I will have to babysit!
It's very pleasant to read your Valentine preparation. I wish you a lovely evening full of love. Greetings from France
Hi Ash,
Please go check out my blog;-)
Your cakes look so sweet. I am sure your boys loved them. The girlfriend thing with Seb is too cute- my kids skipped this stage and I wish they hadn't, so sit back and enjoy it.
Beautiful looking cupcakes! Hope you had a lovely Valentine's Day over there in Holland.
Lovely cupcakes, the hearts on top are a great touch! I hope you all had a wonderful Valentines Day. :)

Great cupcakes, Ash!
Seb really notices girls??? Max is totally clueless and uninterested.
Happy Valentine's Day!!
