Autumn 2006 Elsenhove My boys - a picture to sum up 2006

So I've been reading all these 'what I did in 2006' posts. There's all these accomplishments, wow! I can't believe what some people have done this year. The ones that impressed themselves upon me the most were Kelli and her wonderful list of highlights and Wil Wheaton and his excerpts from 2006.

I thought I'd have a look back over this year and see what I did. Now that I'm approaching 33 the ol' memory isn't what it used to be.

In January I passed my driving test and turned 32 on the same day! Passing a driving test is no mean feat in Amsterdam, and I have to thank my driving instructor for all the help he gave me. Thanks Michael!

In February I had surgery and came around from the anaesthetic speaking Dutch! As a result the hospital has my nationality listed as 'Nederlander'. ;)
A few days later we bought our first car.

In March Sebastian turned six and we re-lived his life in photos. Joe stowed some playdoh in his nose. The kids started playing football at a club near us.

In April Brad turned 33.

In May we greened up our balcony. Seb played in his first football tournament.. He also had an absence seizure and needed to have an EEG. We visited Praq for Mother's Day. I met Barbara!

In June I went on a trip down memory lane. I reminsced about my dad. We walked the Avondvierdagse in our town. We renovated our bathroom and toilet. I bought some Crocs.

In July we celebrated Joe's birthday at school, his real birthday is in August. We spent a lot of time at the pierenbadjes. The summer party took place at school and the judo exams.

In August we really didn't do much, but our littlest monkey turned 4!

In September Joe started school and Seb skipped a grade. I realised that having both children in school did not automatically mean hours of lying on the couch! Seb lost his first tooth. I started knitting and realised why I like living in Holland.

In October life seemed to be a blur of activity. Brad visited his parents and sister in the USA.

In November I did a lot of cooking and volunteered for the PTA at school. I shared my fruitcake recipe.

In December we celebrated Sinterklaas, the school Kerstdiner and Christmas with lots of food and I had dental surgery. The school year ended and we're all relaxing until January 8th!

Biggest change here on the blog? I think it has to be the move away from stitching and into cooking/food writing. You can find a list of the recipes I shared this year here.

2006 was definitely more drudge than fun. Read 2005's list to see what I mean.

2007 will be different! We're booked to visit ClubMed in France in May and we're planning to take a trip to London in April to visit Brad's grandparents who will be staying there for two months. My mom is coming to visit this year (I hope), and so there should be more 'out and about' than there was in 2006.

New Year's 'revolutions'? To spend more time relaxing, less time stressing, to bake more, to craft more, to have more fun!

What a year, Ash! I like the idea of breaking it down into months ... it's so easy to get lost in the blur of general busyness.

Can't wait to see you tomorrow!

What a wonderful year! You celebrated life too! And I'd love to hear more about learning Dutch. Was it terribly difficult?
I resolve to continue to make great international friendships in 2007.

I didn't do a year in review, unless you count reliving highlights while I put photos in albums....Still haven't finished that task yet.
