Christmas cookies Sugar Cookies

We are Martha'ing away in this house these last couple of days. In addition to the household chores we have done these magnificent things:

Painted baubles, sent Christmas cards, distributed gifts of fudge, made sugar cookies, decorated sugar cookies, given sugar cookies out as gifts, iced Christmas cake, made and bottled fruit mince meat (for 2007), worked out a menu for Christmas day, visited a fantastic new bookshop in Amsterdam and relieved the household of 27 books and only came home with 7 new ones, and almost finished the front of Joe's latest sweater. One sleeve left to go.

Phew.

I used the second sugar cookie recipe from Elise at Simply Recipes. They were fun to make - the kids loved decorating them and this dough was good to roll out. One word of warning though, if you make them yourself don't be alarmed at how moist the dough seems when you take it out of the mixer - it firms up dramatically in the fridge.

Our Christmas menu is:
Delia's Leg of Lamb, with orange glazed carrots, cream-braised brussels sprouts, roast potatoes and home made dinner rolls (made with the same recipe as the hamburger buns I shared a while back). Followed by lemon and chocolate tartlets and lots of tv watching.

I'd love to know what you plan to eat in your household.

Hi Ashleigh,

Your cookies turned out really well. The boys did a splendid job of decorating them. I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas.

I'm planning to do prime rib for dinner. I've never cooked it before. I'm planning to do a salt crust over it. I'm not sure of the purpose of that but it doesn't sound too difficult.

Your dinner sounds delicious. Enjoy it and all the love and laughter that goes along with it.

Your menu still makes my mouth water! And if I feel up to it, I'll 'borrow' your sugar cookie recipe tomorrow and take my chances in the kitchen with the wee beasties. ;>

Your cookies are gorgeous!

My family and I are going to my in-laws for Christmas, and we will eat the traditional North American Christmas fare. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we'll also have tourtire du lac Saint-Jean.

Joyeux Nol!

I wanted to have roast beef but I was outvoted so we will have ham, mashed sweet potatoes with mini marshmallows, brussels sprouts, parsnips and corn bread. I am planning a very un-Martha dessert -- frozen apple or fruit pie.

Everyone's Christmas dinner sounds scrumptious! We'll be at DH's niece's house, so I am assuming we be having what her mum and her mum before her always have: Roast chicken and ham, roasted vegies, followed by plum pudding with cream and custard. Then there are all the extras that the rest of the family bring: cassata icecream, meringues, nuts, chocolates and so on... groan..my liver won't stand it!
Hey Ash - did my Christmas cake arrive yet?

Great job on those cookies. We (that's the kids smearing and me preparing and scraping the walls afterwards!) have this tradition every year, but due to other things haven't come around to it yet. Maybe I'll steal your recipe for the dough. We'll start after christmas I think. Have a great christmas meal...sound very good to me!
