Cupcakes for Christmas

Christmas Cupcakes

Last year at the beginning of November we were in England. Unable to defend itself from the kids, a package of Sainsbury's Christmas Cupcakes leapt off the shelves into our overburdened basket and came home to Holland with us. The package didn't get made up last December because of one thing and another so they've been resting, unfulfilled, in the pull-out larder.

Months have been spent eyeing up the package. Months have been spent fending off the endless questions about when the cupcakes will be made. Months have been spent. Full stop.

Today, finally, they're made and decorated by Santa's Little Helpers. Sebastian chose to make his decorations stand up on the little cakes while Joe made his lie down. Do you think Freud would have something to say about child order?

They ate an awful lot of nonpareils between them. I ate an awful lot of icing.

Sometimes a package of E numbers is a good thing.

I made your fruit cake today. The batter was wonderful and it smells heavenly. Hope it makes it until next weekend.

Wow! You're up to speed as opposed to someone I know... So you've had yr school christmas dinner already, mine's coming up thursday and it turns out that I have to make 30 rolls for Wessel's class but also have to make rolls or something like that for Timo's class..not by myself but together with a band of 5 hyped up children in my kitchen. All afternoon! They call it Cooking with the ****
Yeah right! That is exactly what I need on the thursday before Christmas....

LOL at the boys' display methods. Nicky would've had his figures fighting an all-out war in the icing and the whole kitchen would wind up "decorated".

Your cupcakes look delicious. This week we'll finally get busy with our Christmas baking.

Hi,
I discovered your site a few days ago and love it. I enjoy and laugh about all of the things that go on with your boys and love to read about cooking and everyday life. I'm wondering if you can help me get exact measurements for the vanilla fudge. I need to know how many cups or tablesppoons 100 g is and how many oz the tin of condensed milk is. This oculd end up being gifts for friends and visitors on Christmas. Thanks, Terri PS You are a gifted writer!
