When you take a look inside a book...

Who knows what you might see?
Someone who has watched way too many episodes of 'the Fimbles' maybe?
I attempted to write this post a few hours ago, whenI was full of the joy of newly received books, but my fingers froze. We're in the middle of a very cold spell and it's been freezing! So I left the keyboard, went to meet Seb's teachers and came back, and after lunch and some hot tea I'm defrosted and able to write again.
The books are from www.abebooks.co.uk , which I found through visiting yarnstorm.
Truly my best discovery of the week, my first visit yielded all twenty books pictured above for 30 pounds! Amazingly good value, considering English language children's books are scarce here and I don't have access to all the second hand bookshops I would have been frequenting in the UK.
Seb is all set for reading for another few months and hopefully we can distract him from reading that last Harry Potter book, which is a little *too* adult for him.
You might notice Anne of Green Gables hiding in there. That one's for me. I always wished I was Anne - she had such an interesting life. Little did I know that mine was going to be interesting too! Prince Edward Island seemed so exotic to me and later when I read some of Annie Proulx novels set in similar landscapes I immediately felt drawn to them.
And finally, the 'throwing of chestnuts and acorns incident' or the 'eikel incident' (Dutch readers: please laugh now at the double entendre) has been resolved. Luckily the neighbour whose car suffered the bombarding could find no damage to her vehicle and so we were all relieved. We have changed to throwing sycamore seeds instead - much less damaging than airborne missiles.
Thanks to everyone for your comments and emails. I promise I will get to answering you, after I spend the rest of the week wondering why I'm more tired when we gained an hour's sleep on Sunday ...

My god, looking at that picture was like looking at my own bookshelf.
Thanks for visiting my blog - your four foxes comment absolutely cracked me up. I'm going to steal that one ...
(enjoy those books - I am passionate about children's lit)
Just found you ! Hello ! I've lived in Holland for twelve years and am still adjusting , sometimes better than others ! ....re your hospitalisation blog . You could , of course , have tried a Fries (in the north of Holland and quite definitely NOT Holland to some ) hospital ...delightful and efficient except for one night nurse with a mission . She came in to check my drip and rattled something off . I apologised , in Dutch , for not speaking Fries . "What's your address? "....so I told her ( two streets away actually ) . "Well don't you think you should take the trouble to speak Fries "....so no credit for having just had an operation or taking the trouble to speak Dutch , then . I immediately became three years old again and clammed up . When the woman in the next bed puked everywhere I sympathised and rang the bell ......guess who was VERY cross . Guess who joined my gang !! I must say , I have so many friendly Fries and Dutch acquaintances and good friends so can't complain ( I do , of course !! but would anywhere , I think !! )
Oh books! We all love to read here (except for the younger twin)I tried to win them over for my stack of Enid Blyton "five" books but they were adamant in saying it was old fashioned...Duh! There goes my series of Pitty, and The Twins (girl stuff I know, but I loved those books!)
What a lovely collection of books -we have most of them too. Like you I loved/adored Anne of Green Gables and I still read it as an adult sometimes. My other one is Tom's Midnight Garden - have you got that one. I didn't realise you were collecting children's books. I always find lots in the charity shop - shall I look out for some for you?
Hi! I'm one of the newbies to the SBEBB board and just thought I'd check out everyone's blogs. I like your layout! :) I am a bookaholic too! Hehe...
Hope to hear from you soon!
Have a good one!

If you'd care to email me, perhaps we could borrow/lend books. We have more than 1400, mostly in English, and still counting. The dcs are 8, 8 and 5, and read books like the ones you've listed. They're also HB. We're in A'veen near the molen.

Phew, very glad to hear of the resolution of the acorn incident! (Have to snicker at the eikel incident....)
It's cold here, too, and my "winter toes" as the GP so charmingly diagnosed the problem, has resurged. Brrr! Numb/painful fingers and toes.
