Sinterklaas Party 2006
And you reach into the air and take the egg ...

Or so it would seem given the dearth of posting around here. Thank goodness I didn't sign up for NaPoBloMo.

Life has slipped into one of those seldom intervals of something closely resembling boredom. Not really boredom because I am never bored, but just quite frankly, uninteresting to everyone except those who are experiencing it.

I won't go on and on about it except to quickly chronicle what we've been doing:

Sinterklaas festivities at the DH's work (photo of Seb and magician, Robert Blake, above): this was fun! The magician was extra cool, especially when he made funny Dutch-English translation errors, like 'now you just throw up over here' when he meant to say 'you throw this up in the air over here'. The kids loved it. Loved the candyfloss. Loved their gifts. We loved going in the car and not having to take the bus. Yay for cars.

Waterwratten or molluscum contagiosum: oh, woe woe and woe. Seb has it in his underpants area. I've bought out all the chemist's supplies of micropore tape, Thuja drops, Betadine lotion, calendula lotion, and eczema cream. 'Nuff said.

Battlestar Galactica: we have been deeply deeply involved in the BSG world. Except whenever I see 'The Cylons were created by man' in the headers I think of my Dyson vacuum cleaner with its 'cyclone' technology. Sad, I know. We love BSG. The series reminds me why I was attracted to science fiction in the first place - it was an welcome release from the actual world portrayed in the rest of modern fiction. BSG brings back some of the energy of the classic SF writers, Asimov, Heinlein and Arthur C Clarke. Yay for my ex for introducing me to SF and thank goodness I have Brad, who is continuing the trend.

Kleuterklas swimming: I finally got us registered as an informal association and our bank account is done and the first set of invoices have been received by the parents. Massive relief on my part that it's all done.

School reports: Seb is doing great! He got a wonderful report, except for the speed with which he completes tasks, which is insufficient, but we already knew that. I have the meeting with Joe's teachers this afternoon to hear how he's adjusting to school.

Surgery for me: Scheduled for 19 January.

Holidays for us: Booked from 27 April to 8 May in Lesvos. So excited can barely wait!

Now onto a couple of good causes.

Please see an Inconvienent Truth. It's inconvenient enough that here in the Netherlands we have been 12 degrees Celsius above our normal November temperatures. You owe it to your children to see this film.

If you live in Holland and wish to support a smoke-free restaurant industry, please go and sign here. It sucks deeply that we don't have the same laws as other countries requiring clearly delineated smoking and non-smoking areas. For us it makes going out to eat a gamble. I know many many people feel the same way, so please, Dutch readers - go and sign. Jouw mening telt!

If you want to see what you can live on if you live in the USA and are unfortunate enough to be on the food stamps program, go and see what Kelli is doing on her Food Stamps Diet. It makes you think, doesn't it?

Wishing you all a comfortingly uneventful week ....

Thanks for the anti-smoking link. I'm so sensitive to cigarette smoke that it's become almost impossible to go out to restaurants.

And that holiday! You didn't mention that on the phone yesterday! YAY for holidays!!

I too saw an Inconvenient Truth and blogged about it...

I have been encouraging everyone to see it.

Quinn's school report is exactly the same, doing great on everything except writing and speed of work.

My DS had molluscum contagiosum down his side - biggest problem with him was dry skin which he scratched thereby spreading the molluscum contagiosum. E45 cream solved that problem and it all cleared up fairly quickly and easily. Hope it's not a problem for your little one.

I'm glad to find another fan of BSG! We've just finished season 2 here in the UK and are impatiently awaiting season 3, hopefully in the new year (??). We're both keen SF fans here and think this show is by far and away the best thing we've seen since the heady days of Babylon 5. :o)

I don't know what course of action you've decided on but wish you all the best for Jan 19th!

Hugs, Chris x x
