Sinterklaas kapoentje ...

Gooi wat in mijn schoentje ...
The Sint is in town and the whole household is almost expiring from the excitement. We visited the big 'arrival' at the town centre, and on Saturday the shoes were out and the Sint and his Pieten kindly filled them with chocolates.
The bribes and threats have been flying.
'If you are naughty Sinterklaas will know.'
'If you don't come with me and do as I say Sinterklaas might not bring you anything'.
Oh the wisdom of the Dutch who managed to extend the anticipation of Christmas Eve into two whole weeks, thus extending the capacity of the parents to employ bribery, trickery and kinds of other nefarious methods to get their children to behave well!
Baking Soda says that they only put their shoe out on Wednesdays and weekends, and other families I know do it only a few times in the two weeks. There are others who do it every night, so I think we'll do that this year. Sometimes perhaps the Sint will be 'busy'.
To everyone who bought stuff from my ebay sales - thank you! I will be listing more this Sunday so keep watching :)
Comments
I promise to be good as well. But our Sint is going to have a hard time riding his horse over the rooftops to Arizona (that is how the story goes, he rides over the rooftops and uses the chimney to deliver his presents)... he could use his steam boat of course, luckily Santa knows how to fly..
Can you imagine the tales Dutch parents tell to reassure their children that Sint will find their shoe, no matter where that shoe is located?
I JUST FOUND YOUR WEBSITE AND WANT TO SAY I LOVE IT.
THANK YOU

Hi
I also just tuned into your website looking for easter things in holland(i am dutch with an irish husband) and just like to comment on the ladies writing in.
When my children where small i also put out the shoes but i forgot about the comments they got from schoolchildren wondering why saint nick is not coming to them.
So i just got away saying i was dutch.
I had to stop doing it as they started to ask me too many questions.
I just hope santa will not overtake the good old saint nick as it is a nicer game to play.
My mother used to sent the chocolate letters and pepernoten to my children and they used to love it.
It is a pity they never got to see the good old saint nick.
Apart from when they were baby's.
The schools have different days off.
greetings,
Carla
