A Dutch Sampler

Gosh, something was actually 'stitched in Holland'! I finished this sampler a few weeks ago for an exchange on the Aion BB. It's a design by Dutch designer Karin Kersten who trades under the name Beardie Designs. This freebie is available on her website, so go take a look. She has lots of beautiful patterns, especially for needlework accessories.
The pattern was charted for Gloriana silk, but as the recipient would be using this piece as the basis for a cushion or other item that would need washing, I changed the threads to DMC. At first I was alarmed at the juxtaposition of the pink and the mustard yellow but it grew on me!
It was very difficult to get a reasonable picture of the piece, especially as it had to be sent 'unfinished' so I did the best I could. I ended up cropping it quite closely so it's difficult for you to tell the dimensions from the picture. IN case anyone is really interested, my fabric was 9 x 12 inches and I had about 2.5 inches to spare on all sides.
I hope my partner enjoys it as much as I enjoyed stitching it.

Love this design, Ash. I'm heading over to the Beardie website now! :D
I love this freebie, thank you for giving us the link !!! You picked the right colours, I think.

A girl that I used to petsit for had a beautiful cross stitch of the canal houses in Amsterdam. It was all done in delft blue like colors and was short and long. I loved it.
I really must get the pattern from her sometime and do it for my house as well.
I've looked and looked for the pattern online but but haven't had much luck! I'll keep you posted :P
What a beautiful piece of art! I used to do needlepoint when I was younger, now I'm into the larger needles of crochet and knitting.
I'm envious that you've been to Inhassoro. Can you believe I've been in MZ 1.5 years and Macaneta was the first beach I've been to!?!
Ash, this is just gorgeous, your stitching is so neat! I'm going to pay the Beardie website a visit too...
Hi Ashleigh,
I saw your posting on the expat website. I was just wondering where you and your husband are from?
The piece is beautiful! Great job on it
Very nice Ashleigh, well done on your finish.
Ashleigh,
I did go to Beardie Designs as you recommended. I printed this out to do! Then, I was going through your archives and noticed that you had stitched it, too. It came out great!
Thanks for the tip about Beardie! Any other European designers that you like?

I have never read a blog but I was searching for cross stitch samplers on the internet and came across your website. I started reading and could not stop - needless to say I read almost all your links. You should write a book. I love your sweaters and cross stitch.
Hi,
I found your blog via google by accident and have to admit that youve a really interesting blog :-)
Just saved your feed in my reader, have a nice day :)

Hey Ash! Though you showed this to me already, I had to pop in and say once again how beautifully it turned out. And thanks for sharing the freebie info!!
