Redwork

Redwork Biscornu received from Annette Redwork Biscornu from Annette

Yesterday was one of 'those' days. Yesterday was also the first day of the new school year.

I woke up, walked to the computer to check the weather report before dressing the kids, and ... no internet. Checked the phone, that wasn't working either. Talked to KPN (our phone provider) whilst dressing kids and getting breakfast ready. They said that the fault lay somewhere in our house because according to them it was still working. So we pulled all the cabling out, checked it, checked the ADSL switch, checked the phone, plugged the ADSL modem in directly bypassing the switch and got the internet connection to work. But the phone was still dead. So we thought the phone had been struck by lightning or something. Luckily later in the day Brad brought home a tester, tested the line and miraculously it worked again. So I don't know. Maybe there was a fault on the line after all. Thank goodness it's fixed now.

I herded the kids to school and got them settled in their classrooms and left, ready to go to the library and the post office after seeing the acupuncturist. I got to the library and it only opens at 1 pm on Mondays. Did the other things, then fetched Joe, (who had cried and hid under the table at school), shopped for food, did some filing, fetched Sebastian, did more filing, made frittata for supper, collapsed in a heap. Why is adjusting to the school routine sooooo hard?

Anyway, as you can imagine, I was cheered up immensely when I retrieved a package from my mailbox and saw that it was my redwork exchange. I had been expecting my Loose Feathers quarterly shipment from Needlecraft Corner so at first I thought it was that, but it was this instead! And not only the biscornu, but also beautiful threads, three fat quarters of red fabric (which I already want to use as focus points in a lap- quilt), lovely buttons and a chart which I had been eyeing for some time - JBW's French Country III Apple chart.

Thank you so much Annette! Sorry for the blurry photo - I was too lazy to get the lightbox out and these little things are so delicate that they don't photograph well in poor light.

Today is shaping up to be a little better than yesterday! I didn't realise Seb had gym today, so I didn't pack his gym clothes. Which meant an extra trip back to school. I didn't have time to have breakfast because I slept too late, so I ended up finally eating at 10 o'clock, after all the going back and forth with gym kit. I did however, make it to the post office, the supermarket and the library all in 30 minutes, so that part went well. Joe didn't hide under tables today and seemed very enthusiastic when I collected him at lunch time. I have yet to find out how Seb's second day went.

More news on that, and knitting, later.

Ash, you do manage to make me laugh! Your trials sound so familiar! I hope Seb's second day was much better and that Joe continues to enjoy school.
