Picture shows Sebastian wearing the Child's Guernsey from Debbie Bliss How to Knit
A moody look, just 6 years too soon! Isn't this supposed to be a teenage pose?
Oh, the angst!
Isn't he beautiful though, even with the black eye caused by someone running into him in the gym?
We had a great time posing for these shots and you can see a rather more smiley Sebastian wearing his jersey here.
The details about this knit:
- 6.5 balls 50g Shetland DK in cream
- 3.75 mm and 4 mm Inox bamboo needles
- Project No 4 from Debbie Bliss 'How to Knit'
I bought the wool from an ebay seller who spins the wool from her own sheep. Unfortunately she has since disappeared or reincarnated herself as someone with poor feedback and I can't be sure of which it is so I can't buy more.
The wool was nice, a little scratchy and smelling of sheep when it was pressed, but I guess that's authenticity for you ;)
I should have knitted a tension square before starting this as it turned out a little on the big side. My tension is usually quite reliable to what it says on the ball band, but because this wool had no information I really would have done better with a tension square. My kids are very thin, so it is quite wide on Sebastian, which is probably a good thing for layering! It's perfect for snuggling into.
I think the patterns from this book run a little big anyway. My mom-in-law knitted the Simple Cable Sweater from there for Seb a few years ago and he has only just grown into it. It was knitted in his size, but again without a tension swatch.
Now I need to go buy some 3.75 and 3 mm needles for the red sweater that my younger son has asked me to knit. It's rather gratifying to make garments which actually get used!

Oh my, your Sebastian is so very beautiful! I am quite smitten - but then, I do have a thing for Sebastie/ans! ;)
You did a great job with this jersey, wow! I'd say that's a good thing it's a little on the big side - means Sebastian will get to wear this gorgeous knit longer!
Ashleigh,
Beautiful work and great pictures. Your son is a cutie! I liked the picture of him laughing. It's nice that it's a bit too big for him, he'll be able to wear it for several seasons.
Wow, Ash, I'm totally impressed (diep onder de indruk!). Four meals out of single little chicken and now this incredible, wearable, work of art! Seb looks fabulous in it, and if he's like Max, he likes his clothes baggy anyway. Great stuff!!
Great pictures!!! Looks like he likes the camera :) LOVE the sweater - you did a terrific job. I'm impressed.
What a beautiful photograph and guess what I knitted this jumper too about 5 years ago. Isn't it a lovely pattern. I lent the book to my sister and guess what she lent it to someone (!) and never got it back and I always wanted to knit it again. So two years ago I copied the jumper like counting the stitches etc and I made another one and it nearly drove me mad. Alas I used wensleydale wool, nice but itchy so it's been sitting in the drawer...would love to try it again with nice wool.
Beautiful photo. Beautiful jumper. Beautiful boy.
Lovely jersey, and it looks beautiful on Seb.
I wish I could knit - well I can, but I can't like it enough to keep going. I have 1/3 of a lovely large aron knit jersey, whch stalled, and then 2/3 of a baby jump suit I started making witht he rest of the wool. For all I know both are now moth eaten... I'll need to teach Quinn to knit so that he can do something with them! :)

Ashleigh, it's a beautiful sweater for a beautiful boy. You're tempting me to pick up the book and give it a try. Angela
