Redwork Photo Album

I really thought my life would be filled with days of lounging on the couch once both kids were in school. How very very wrong I was! It's been hectic!

So hectic that my piles of washed clothing waiting for the iron are starting to resemble the Post Office in Ankh Morpork. Woe, woe is me! It's not looking like it will let up any time soon either.

A quick recap of our weekend. We had judo for Joe and Seb's first football match of the season on Saturday.

Seb acquitted himself very well playing for the F3s. There was less standing around on the field and more being involved with the ball.

Joe, alas, was out of sorts for his judo practice and spent more time prone on the floor than actually listening to the instructor.

On Sunday we visited the Amstel Park and I put my back out by sitting in a weird position on a blanket knitting. The kids and their dad watched Grand Prix in the afternoon and the jubilation at Michael Schumacher's imminent retirement was overwhelming. Oh, and I bought a pressure cooker so there was time spent trying that out on the weekend - what a great tool! Now just to learn to use it properly without turning everything into soup.

This week is meetings meetings and more meetings. Next week I have a school trip with Sebastian's class to Duinrell.

So now, the fun stuff. Today's picture is of the redwork I stitched as an insert for a photo album for Leslie. I used sand coloured 28 ct linen, WDW Aztec Red and a motif from the Ackworth Quaker book. I stitched it over one and I like how it came out. All the materials were things I had in my stash (including the photo album), so this qualifies as a 'use what you have' project. I wanted something that Leslie could use, possibly to display needlework pictures or as a memento book.

It was incredibly difficult to photograph this album adequately! Eventually I just settled for the best I could do and left it at that.

I hope Leslie liked it.

I love what you stitched for Leslie! so original and pretty.
I really laughed when you compared your pile of laundry to Ankh-Morpork - I read my first Pratchett on vacation (Going Postal) and it was good fun!

Ashleigh I love it, I dont normally go for red, but this is fantastic, and what a super gift, I'm sure Leslie will get a lot of use from it. I'm thinking that you added the lace and bows yourself, if so, well done they finish it off perfectly

Wow I love the redwork it's beautiful. As for getting someone else to do your knitting for you I have no qualms anymore. About two years ago I started a bolero for my daughter, knit the whole back and I don't know if I didn't check my tension but the size was wrong. I could have wept and I couldn't bear to do it again so I asked a lady at the WI to knit it for me and she did - gladly. I paid her ofcourse. Amber's after a twin set now and I might do the same thing as I couldn't face knitting anything big in 3-ply.

Ash,

The album i so pretty! I think the picture turned out great. I think you need to find a working student who knows how to iron, so that you can put your feet up and knit or stitch.

That work is divine. I wish I could embroider.
You've dashed my hopes that I will have endless free time when both children are at school (still 2 1/2 years to go, but I can dream).

I so know what you mean...these kid-less hours seem so much longer when you think of them then that they really are. And if you may find such a ironing-student treasure...please send him/her my way? My pile "to iron" is next to the pile "to fold" She/he can't miss it. (Needless to say I can...repeatedly)
And I love the redwork, must be hard to part with it.

Ash,
After seeing this gorgeous bright red album, I am going to ahve to find one for msyelf . It is really stunning! I am a red person, love that color..of course, my hair is very dark, nearly black, and I am fair, so red is good to wear. I just love the way you inserted the stitching. Now tell how did you do that so that the back looks good? Gotta let me konw becuase I want to find one similar to this to make for myself, and I am wondering how did you finish it in the back so it looked right .
Also, I must mention that that pincushion is terrific. Was that one of Debba's beaded projects, looks like it. I have the kit have not uput it together, but yours looks marvelous! I am so tempted to go look for mine now that I see yours. You did a wonderful job on the beading.

OT - HI Ash,
Must also comment on the wooden shoes you have pictured once the comment is posted. HOw beautiful they are! Worthy of putting on a shelf as art . I used to have a pair of wooden shoes when I was a child...they were fun to wear, and very durable . My heritage is Dutch, Scottish, Irish and Castillian/Spanish -- quite a combination . Made me remember the days of my childhood when I saw your wooden shoes...

Your album is stupendous, Ash! I have started a little folder on my computer with pics of wonderful finished stitched pieces, and just put a copy of your album in it. It's a wonderful idea and very useful! :D
