Bags of Friendship

Tote Bag Margaret Sherry's Pot-Purri adorning a hand-made tote

When I was paired with Renee in the Friendship exchange on the Stitching Bloggers BB, I read her wishlist and likes and dislikes and knew immediately that it had to be something with cats.

Then I saw she had two Margaret Sherry kits on her wishlist. I bought both, stitched one (Pot-Purri) and gave her the other (Purr-fick) as part of the exchange. I decided on a tote bag as I wanted to make something useful instead of just decorative.

I looked around for fabric I thought would complement the bag, couldn't find any in the shops, and finally found this leftover linen in my stash (from an old pair of trousers!) and the purple 100% cotton for the lining arrived rather fortuitously from Hancocks at the same time.

It was only when I was sewing together the pocket and the outer fabric that I realised that the striped fabric hadn't been cut on the grain and also contained a bit of lycra so it didn't lie very well. In the end I decided to leave it - I'd run out of time in fiddling with it!

The lined pocket on the front can hold keys or something and the bag is big enough for sunglasses and book for at the beach/pool/whatever. It fits very comfortable over one's shoulder and under one's arm.

Of course, Renee can always take her stitching with her instead ;)

That is so cute, Ash. Thank you for the sweet note on my blog and for referring me to your video - it brought back lots of memories! The cat at my parents' place used to do that every time we were having dinner and she was locked outside (the kitchen opens on to the garden).
