Quilt in Progress Log Cabin Squares

These are the log cabin squares that I showed you before, in their current incarnation. I went down to the fabric shop this afternoon to get a good plain red for the centre panel and a good plain blue for the side panels. The lady in the shop was 'so not amused' (ref. episode of Dr Who this season) with my choices. She felt it impinged upon her sensibilities to allow someone to mix those fabrics together. She grew even more concerned when I told her that I intended to use steel grey quilting thread on the red and blue panels. I was steadfast and did not allow myself to be dissuaded!

I like how it is. The red centre panel might be a bit wider and I'll let you use your imagination to work out that there will be blue panels on either side of the log cabin central panel.

I think the binding might be something interesting, like a black and white polka dot or something and I have no idea yet about the back but I'm thinking. It'll be something bright. I took a photo so I can remember what to sew where. One of the disadvantages of apartment living is having to tidy up everything all the time.

I'll shop online for the backing fabric as the markup here in Holland is just too too much. A metre of Moda fabric is 16 euros!

Other notables today:

  • I ran at 8 km/h on the treadmill for 4 minutes of my 25 minute run/walk. I've only managed 7.5 for 2 minute intervals before so this feels very good!

  • I decided to buy a sports bra after the man watching me in the mirror was rhymthically nodding to the up down and around action of my rather insecure boobs. So I bought two Berlei Shock Absorber bras. I'll try one of them tomorrow.

  • I got lost driving around our own town! There's been a road closed for months and so I've always avoided it, but now its re-opened again and it completely flummoxed me. I was lost for about 20 minutes.

  • Brad put together two Flexa underbed drawers for the kid's toys (there will be photos soon!) and put up two new windowboxes outside the kitchen window, and he put a new hard drive in the computer.

  • The lettuce was overgrown so we're having salad tonight.

And finally, from last night at dinner, Seb and Joe decided that their dad is Dr Fart-n-Burper. Don't ask!

I am glad you are holding fast to your vision for the quilt. It is improvisational and wonderful. Those quilt store ladies think they know it all, don't they? I find them quaintly behind the times frankly. Congratulations on your progress!

I love the idea of using steel grey thread on the red panels!

(Thanks for visiting my blog. Yes, the new Rebus is good, but really, John Hannah is a hard act to follow.)

Oh no! ;P I hadn't thought of that! Mind you, after a visit to the physio yesterday (why didn't I know that they really lean on you when they're manipulating your back??) I feel a bit like a Fart-n-Burper!
