Lunch, and stuck in the house.

Lunch Weds 10 April

No, I'm not about to become one of those people who photograph every meal, although I know it can be a fantastic weight loss aid! This photo is just a special one. As soon as I finished assembling my sandwich I looked at it against the dark countertop and thought 'wow, now there's a sandwich!' so I had to take a photo to share with you. Click here to see what went into my sandwich and how many calories it was.

We're stuck in the house today despite the fantastic weather.

We have, not one, but two sick boys in our house. Yesterday we had a runaround to try and get Joe to be seen by a competent doctor, involving a trip first to the stand-in for our regular doctor, who is away on maternity leave, and then another trip in the evening to the afterhours doctor, and then a trip to the nearby town of Ouderkerk aan de Amstel to get the medication that Joe need.

I am annoyed by the whole thing because he has been sick with an ear infection for more than a week, and the 'viral' infection that he apparently has, apparently isn't. I know about the dangers of taking antibiotics indiscriminately but this particular little boy is virtually never ill, and has only had antibiotics once in his life, and that was for pneumonia. Poor kid! In the morning the doctor looked in his ear and gave me the 'typische Nederlander huisarts' response of 'use nosedrops' and then by afternoon his temperature was close on 40C and her office was closed! And so were the offices of every other huisarts in Amstelveen who could have seen him! Hence the runaround.

When we got home from our trip to Ouderkerk, Sebastian was crying and upset and we realised he too was feeling ill. We took his temperature and it was also up at 39C! No idea why though as he won't say.

So, no school for them, no gym for me, no football later, no pizza for dinner (only on football nights and if I've earned it at the gym) and no playing outside in the sun! Waah!

I'm going to use the time wisely to get rid of the immense basket of ironing I have here, make a bag for the paper recycling basket and a peg bag for my pegs and try and get started on a Pointy Kitty. In between that the man is supposed to come and read the meters on our radiators and I'm trying very very hard not to be too hungy because without exercising I can only eat my base limit of 1200 calories, which doesn't seem like an awful lot right now!

I regularly photograph food that I prepare ... well, not regularly enough. But I figure, after a few years, one could have quite a substantial collection of mouthwatering ideas to look back on.
Definitely plan to make a collage once I have enough food pics.
BTW - that sandwich looks delicious and fresh.

How awful, Ash! The poor boys, and their poor Mom! Niek has also been sick for almost 2 weeks with some ear ailment that's been mis-diagnosed a couple of times and even now the doctor has told him to wait another week. Grr! It's much worse when it's a child that's ill, though. I hope everyone will be healthy again very soon!
