Domestic Bliss ... or that which was not to be

Kids in the Kitchen A state of pre-cake-ness

So yesterday didn't work out quite as I had planned - Brad and I didn't get to have a hot date with a heat gun after all.

We did, however, make rock buns from the inimitable recipe at Yarnstorm, use up two box mixes in the cupboard making Disney cupcakes and chocolate chip cookies and cleared out four, yes four!, bags of McDonald's toys.

Also, cheap junk from ghastly party bags, broken toys and things that were too horrible to be countenanced any longer. Don't say anything but a vile Action Man and another 'action' toy that shall not be named were in there too.

There were also two boxes of 'good' toys that the kids have outgrown. I might rent a stall at a flea market and sell them off.

I could only do this cleanup because Brad, aka the Magpie, was not home. The kid's room is looking good though and now that lots of the clutter is gone they seem to play with their toys more which is exactly what I was hoping for.

When we baked yesterday the kids got to use their Jamie Oliver sets, wear their 'Super Chef' aprons and lick the spoon and bowl after preparation. The more I see the two of them together the more I think that Joe must favour his dad - he doesn't like raw chocolate cake mixture! I mean, what's not to like?

They hosted a birthday party for their bears once the cupcakes and rock buns were ready, which was almost hindered by a startling lack of birthday candles. I improvised with a scented candle. The bears had a good birthday ;)

We delivered a single futon and the kids' old blackboard easel to a poor family who needs them more than us. This makes the second trip we've taken to their home. The most notable thing about the place is that I have to fight the urge to start cleaning and painting when we go there. I guess when you're living below the breadline home improvements aren't high on your list.

We did not attempt the garden centre. X-Men 3 was apparently very good - maybe Brad will write a review on his blog.

Now I need to find out if I can freeze rock buns, because there is just too toooooo much to eat at one go.

Oh, and the cat ate the marzipan toppings off the cupcakes. Little bugger. It hasn't hindered anyone though and cupcakes have been devoured (despite gnawed on marzipan tops) this morning.

Sounds like an incredibly productive day! And do passalong my congratulations to the birthday bears! :-)

Sounds like domestic bliss to me! I am not big on heat guns and would rather bake any day ;-) And, I am very sorry not to have attended the bears birthday party- the refreshments sound fab.
