Anyone for a little pot?

Decoupage Flowerpot

I made this yesterday using an ordinary terracotta pot, some acrylic paints, crackle glaze (craquelac) and serviettes (napkins) The pot is painted first with acrylic paint which is left to dry.

Then crackle glaze is applied and left to dry and a different colour paint applied once the crackle glaze has dried. The action of the glaze causes the top layer of paint to crack as it dries. One can vary the level of crackling by varying the thickness of the top layer of paint.

After that had dried I applied a cut out motif from a serviette using a combination glue/varnish - mine was called Mod-Potch, but you get various brands. Once that was dry I varnished the whole pot again with the Mod-Potch.

I have a spray varnish but I need a warm dry day to use that - not much chance ever in Holland! I'm planning to get some more terracotta pots in a variety of sizes and paint and decorate them for our balcony for the summer. Should be fun, and decorative!

Yesterday I also decorated a little box with flowers for Sebastian and painted and decoupaged my second floss box to match the other one. I'll take a pic of that (and my Blackbird Sunflower House) tomorrow!

It's gorgeous Ash! Looks very professional. You could pay quite a lot for that in a shop :)

That looks great Ash. I couldn't get my crackle paint to work for me.

Lovely painting on your pot Ashleigh. I've got some pots, paints and varnish from last year, but you guessed it, they're in the garage still waiting to be done.
