A stich here and there ... and Brad's birthday and a bit of bitching too ...

Ok, so what have I been doing?
This week seems to have passed in a blur of grumpiness. It started off on Monday fairly ok, progressed through Tuesday, Wednesday was unmitigatedly bad even though it was Brad's birthday and only today is it starting to get better!
Its better partly because I vented at the traffic department at our local municipality about the fact that there are no 'No Stopping' signs on the very narrow and small road up to Seb's school .
Every morning without fail some idiot feels they need to stop and let their kids out on the road, instead of driving through to the parking, stopping there, letting their kids out safely onto the pavement and then using the very conveniently placed roundabout to come back out of the road. The traffic department actually listened to me and is sending someone to observe the traffic there in the morning.
Whoo-hoo for me! Venting in Dutch! Whatever next?
Last night we celebrated Brad's birthday with pizza after football, followed by chocolate cupcakes with candles on them. The kids loved singing for their dad in English and in Dutch and we got Brad some cool DVDs: 40 Year Old Virgin, Wedding Crashers, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, I am Sam, The Love song of Bobby Long, Robots and Wallace and Gromit Curse of the Wererabbit.
The last two were just for our 'kid-friendly' collection and a good few of the others were just cos I want to see them.
I had the guy at the counter in the shop laughing when I told him that what one has to do for one's spouse's birthday gift is really get things that one wants oneself. He said he'd have to try it on his girlfriend, but will call me when she dumps him ;) I guess that was so he could heap recriminations on me and not because he thought I was a cute thirty-something mom of two, right?
That's the bitching bit and Brad's birthday bit over. Now for the stitching. I finished my biscornu and I'm waiting (im)patiently to send it to my partner. I sent off a scissor fob exchange on Saturday to the UK and I'm a bit alarmed as it hasn't arrived yet. I also phoned the post office (again) about why I am not receiving any international mail. They say they have 'alerted the correct department' so let's see if the 5 missing parcels ever reach us.
I got my partner details for the Legacy Sampler Lady Exchange and picked out a pattern, floss and fabric for it. I switched the called-for DMC for Sampler Threads and I'll be stitching on 34 ct Cafe au Lait Legacy Linen. I also started Blackbird Designs Sunflower House - the colours are beautiful! I'll do a work-in-progress picture tomorrow.
While I was digging around in my overdyed threads I wondered which overdyes you go for first in your selection when substituting threads?
I have a whole lot of different overdyes - Sampler Threads(GAST), Olde Willow, Weeks Dye Works, The Dye is Cast, Crescent Colours , Ozark Sampler etc, and that's just the cottons. Without fail I choose either Crescent Colours or Sampler Threads and not any of the others, even if the colour is closer. I don't have a huge stash of Crescent Colours but if I did I think those would be my first choice because of their softness.
So, what's your first choice in overdyed cottons?
Comments
I don't really have a lot of overdyed cottons. I have the most of GAST and WDW, so I would say that they would be my first choices, just because that's what I have. :)
Have to admit, I'm only just starting to build up my stash of overdyeds - I just recently bought two skeins of Crescent Colors just to see what they were like, and I love them! I also love stitching with Carrie's Threads, and wouldn't mind buying more - GAST would come in as the most popular for colours, but I prefer the 'feel' of other threads over both GAST and WDW (I like NN as well for that reason).
My first choice would be GAST - I have *almost* a full set and can usually find a suitable colour to substitute for the suggested thread. If I don't have a suitable colour, then I just find the closest match in the rest of my stash, regardless of make (I'm probably more picky about the colour!)
I love using Crescent Colours and OWS threads and I'm finding that some of the CC are very similar to GAST in colour. Needle Necessities are fine but are quite variegated so not always suitable to sub - the same goes for WDW.
