So there I was ... standing on the corner minding my own business ...

Well, not really. But I was planning on going to school with Seb and then minding my own business for the rest of the day. My own business being to finish machining my quilt. But ... life had other plans in store for me.
Namely, a flat battery in the car!
So we get outside this morning at 8.15, Brad and I scrape off four inches of snow from the car, clean the windscreen, clean the rear windscreen, get the kids buckled into their seats, wonder momentarily why the central locking doesn't work and why there is a nice circular snow free space on the car roof but shrug those thoughts away as nonsensical.
Then I get in the car and it doesn't start. No interior lights, no display panel, no nothing. Hah. The battery is flat.
Get out the car, get kids out the car, drag screeching kids upstairs to find the number for the mobility people who I have a free one year subscription with (part of the car price). Find details in obscure file in study and phone, only to be told they have no idea who I am and my car is not registered with them. Eventually agree that someone will be with me within an hour to start the car. Get on bicycle (in four inches of snow) and ride to school with Seb on his bike. Get phone call to come home when I am at school as mobility guy is waiting here for me. Mobility guy starts car and I take it to the garage where it gets a new battery.
Battery failure caused by:
Babysit kid fiddling with interior light and leaving it in the 'on' position!
Gah!

Dead battery stories involving kids, snow, and clueless car service people are the WORST.
I have several dead car battery stories, and only one good one: the day the car battery died right across the street from a place that sold car batteries. Sometimes things work out even as they're going bad.

I wish I had to dust 4" of snow off my car this morning - I think our season for possible snow is over :( I'm sorry about the car battery. Cars are wonderful until they give you grief!
Life with children, lol! Of course, it had to happen on that snowy day. Glad everything has been taken care of - and it gave you a great post on your blog. :D
Sorry to hear about the car incident - not a great way to spend your day, huh? Amazing what kids can get up to without you realising ;P
The lesson to be learned here is that cars always break down when it is least convenient-either when it is snowing or on a "dark and stormy night" although I doubt there is a good time for a car to break down :-) Sounds like you mastered the situation well. Hope the rest of your day goes better.
