Homespun Elegance Holly Hair Angel (c) Homespun Elegance 1997 Holly Hair Angel
Finally something to share! This little Christmas ornament, my first this year, is from Homespun Elegance and is their 1997 Annual Ornament, entitled Holly Hair Angel. As I was stitching her I wondered how she would turn out - especially as the stitching is made up of blocks of colour, but as soon as the embellishments were on and the hair embroidered with lazy daisy stitches, she suddenly came together. The ornament is finished according to the directions in the kit which instruct you to make a pillow style ornament and then attach jute cord around the edge using a whip stitch. Its simple, but very effective.

So, she's on my dresser ready to join the other 2006 ornaments when they get stitched. I ordered some Mushroom 32 ct Lugana from Silkweavers to do the latest two Lizzie*Kate ornaments on, so when that comes I'll slot those in. I bought the charts at the Handwerkbeurs here a few weeks ago.

I'm still busy with the applique for my quilt. I've completed the four corner blocks with their roses and the centre block with its single rose. This weekend I will start on the Rose of Sharon squares. I've cut the pieces already and staystitched them with the machine, now just to applique them! I can't wait to see this quilt finished and its really spurring me on to work on it. My big quilt on my bed still needs its binding stitched down and some quilting on the centre squares before I can show you.

Cross-stitching has taken second place for the moment, but my current 'take-along' project is Blackbird Designs Sunflower Charms, a Loose Feathers design from last year. Its so springy and pretty!

Thanks to everyone for the comments they've left for me! I do read them all, but don't always get time to respond.

This is cute! Not my usual taste but it's something different. Nice job on the finishing too.

Great job on the ornament, Ash! Very interesting finishing technique they tell you about with the jute. It really goes well with the ornament and completes the whole look.

So are you beginning to feel better? Slowly...? Been thinking about you and hoping for the best.

I like how you finished it especially with the contrast of the whip stitch on the jute. Something different.
