Zaanse Schans

Today after we took the kids to judo, Brad suggested we take the new car for a drive to somewhere about half an hour away. We decided on Zaanse Schans. The drive was fine, I'm still a little nervous in the car but it seemed to go okay. No-one was shaking with fright when we got out the other side at least!
The musuem had some very interesting exhibits. This one is a sampler that was framed in one of the exhibits but which didn't have any accompanying information - pretty isn' t it? Sorry about the glare on the glass.

This is a picture of an old sewing box with patterns and a partly embroidered cloth, both were part of the same exhibit as the sampler.

This old-fashioned Singer sewing machine reminded me of the sewing machine I had when I was a teenager - it was also a Singer but it was completely pedal and handle operated - no electricity in sight!

This is an ornately carved clog which would have been carved by a prospective husband for his wife to wear on their wedding day.

And finally, me and the monkeys fooling around in a giant yellow clog:

Sounds like you guys had a great day. The weather looks like it played nice as well- it's raining here. Love Zaanse Schans- haven't been there in ages.
I love those pictures!!! I went to the site you gave the link and was so moved by the colorful village and beautiful windmills. My grandmother lives next door to a Dutch lady and I just called to see if would ask Betty if she ever had been there. Betty, my grandmother's neighbor, talks about Holland so much; I think it's been 30 years since she was there and her accent is still very strong - I love to hear her talk!
Your boys are precious ~ my son sure would like to get in that clog and play!
So nice to see a picture with you in it every once in a while. Are you camera shy like I am?
That ornately carved clog is just GORGEOUS. I can't get over it - WOW!
I LOVE the manual sewing machines with the treadle. You have so much more control and there's nothing like the rhythm of working the treadle while sewing. I'm trying to find an antique one that I can actually use, but they are expensive... :(
