Victoria Sampler Needleroll
Love Blooms Always (c) Victoria Sampler

Today is Valentine's Day and although its not really celebrated in the Netherlands, Dutch customs are starting to be influenced by the media, especially television. Mostly though, its just a cute holiday for the kids to decorate stuff and profess how much they love their mamas.

I got a heart decorated with heart stickers from Joe but alas, I was informed after school that Sebastian gave the one he was supposed to make for me to a little girl in his class! I have been superceded in his affections! I guess I will have to be grateful that Joe still loves me ;)

I try and do something special every Valentine's. It's the last month of winter, February is exceedingly dull and spring seems so far away. We're celebrating with strawberries and marshmallows dipped in chocolate fondue tonight. What are you doing to make your day special?

Today's picture is the Valentine needleroll from Victoria Sampler that I stitched for Andrea. I enjoyed stitching this immensely and I hope she likes it as much as I do! I tried a new edging on the needleroll ends and I think it worked out well. It's a very long blanket stitch done in perle cotton. I thought it set off the delicacy of the hardanger quite nicely. Tomorrow when we have more light I'll take pictures of the lovely things I received for Valentine's from Lindsay on the Aion board and Shelleen on the SBEBB.

That needleroll is lovely!!! Too cute about the Valentine mixup. I gave my son, who is 6, a monkey that you press his paw and a big red heart lights up and booms like a beating heart! Well, he loves it but I am sure when he's 15, heck, 8? he won't like those things anymore :(

Hi Ash
Your hardanger just gets better and more beautiful.... You have inspired me to give it a go - not quite sure what to do as a first piece but am looking....

I am hoping you are well on your road to recovery now...I haven't visited your blog for a little while so send belated 'Get Well' wishes to you.
