This week's menu

One can tell that inspiration in the blogging arena is dropping when one feels the necessity to post one's weekly menu. However ... (and there should be a long pause here!) I'm trying to get into the habit again of choosing our menu in advance so I can control our grocery spending. I thought I'd share and make it easier for me to track what we've been eating all at the same time!

This week's menu (which is supposed to run Tuesday to Tuesday and which only runs Friday to Tuesday because I forgot about it) ;)

Friday

Main: Spanish Braised Pork with French bread
Dessert: Leftover treacle pudding and custard

Saturday

Main: Home made pizza
Dessert: Fresh pineapple

Sunday

Main: Flaky Fish Pie with cauliflower cheese
Dessert: A wonderful dutch dessert called Hangop which is made by suspending yoghurt in a muslin bag until it thickens and then swirling it with fruit. The yoghurt is so thick that it stays in layers. I don' t make this btw, I buy it ;)

Monday

Main: Lasagne using fresh lasagne sheets and my frozen bolognaise recipe with fresh green beans
Dessert: Ice cream

Tuesday

Main: Chicken and Leek Pot Pie with carrots
Dessert: Rice Pudding

Baked Goods

Chocolate chip cookies (dough is already made and frozen in portions)
Carrot cake

Oh yummo - have you got a spare place at the table this week?? Your menus sound divine! :)

Thanks Anne!

The Spanish Braised Pork was awful! Really tasteless, despite the plethora of ingredients. I thought it was just me that couldn't taste anything because I have a cold, until the DH told me the sad truth!

Tonight we fared badly too - instead of the pizza I had planned, there was a chicken on special offer at the butchery (I know, shouldn'ta!) but I fell for it and 5 euros later and an hour of cooking, the DH took one bite and informed me the chicken was off. Again, I can't smell or taste a thing so I would've just eaten it and paid the price in hurling tomorrow!

So, let's see how the pizza goes tomorrow night (now that I'm shifting everything forward a day thanks to the chicken which wasn't a bargain at all!)

Hey Ash, I am delighted to find someone else who plans a weekly menu in advance! My friends say I am unreal or crazy for doing this, but it is the only way I can function without the stress of wondering what the hell am I going to cook tonight! There is only Ken and I, but I still work out every Wednesday night, what we will eat for dinner for the next seven days. Then I head to the supermarket (late at night when there are no queues and no parking problems), and buy all that I need for the week. The only things I need to buy during the week after that is the vegies (like to buy them fresh each day), milk and bread when needed, and the odd item that I may run out of.
Way to go!

Have a look at what you have inadvertently started! I mentioned you on my blog and wrote about my own menu planning. Ms Robyn linked her blog to my message, and now girls all over the world are discussing menu planning!

Wow, that's quite something - great that everyone's discussing menu planning! :)

I loved reading your menu Gina! And this has reminded me - its Tuesday again! Yargh!

Out of last weeks's menu, I ended up shifting some of the meals around because of our bad chicken experience so we're having the lasagne tonight instead. The chicken and leek pot pie was nice, but needs less leeks, and I couldn't find any nice fish (Holland does not have a nice selection of fish!), so we ended up having cauliflower cheese as our main dish with some bacon and breadcrumbs topping it - was yummy too! I'll post this week's menu tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing your next one!
