Well, it was better than I expected! The examiner was really nice and quite young too which was pleasant - usually they are ancient old men! He chatted nicely before we started and then I had to do some lights and indicator checks before we moved off. One thing he said that was really funny was:

'When you are ready you can take over.'

The instructor must have seen the puzzled look on my face because he quickly explained that the examiner meant 'overtake' and not 'take over'!

Funny thing, languages ...

We drove for 35 minutes and I did my maneouvres - I did a forward docking and reversed around a corner - and I got the exemption for the maneouvres so I don' t have to do them again when I do my real test! Yay!

The bad news was that he says I am still too hesitant. Mechanically my driving is perfect but I tend to be too careful, so in the next ten lessons I need to work on the hesitancy and I'll be able to sit the final test in the first week of November. He told me to do like Nike and 'just do it'. Let's see if I can.

Thanks to everyone who thought of me today!

Good luck with your driving, Ashleigh. I got my motorcycle licence when I was 19, successful on the first test. I didn't go for a car licence until I was in my 40's and it took me 12 years, and three licence tests before I was successful! I think that was some kind of awful record; I don't know anyone else who has failed so many times, lol!

I stumbled upon this randomly. I'm learning to drive, but in England. But I talk to a person who is from Holland, and I know what you mean about being hesitant. I am always! Good luck
