The Friday Roundup

  1. Today I saw some ass in a large MPV riding on the (separate from the road) bicycle path. He *had* to be a foreigner as every Dutch person and long term Dutch dweller knows that the bike paths are sacrosanct for bikes.
  2. Seb was told to bring a water pistol to school today and he didn't tell me precisely what he wanted so I thought he was talking about taking a water pistol to the pool this afternoon and I refused. We don't own one so I would have had to buy one, but he was the only one in his class who didn't have one this morning. Blah. Now I feel bad.
  3. Its hot hot hot and I got sunburnt yesterday, but we're still going out for the afternoon to the pool. The sun only shines rarely and briefly in Holland so we have to make the most of it. It shone yesterday and its due to get cold again on Monday. Yesterday was 27 degrees! Today is forecast at 28!
  4. The piano teacher's husband had a perforated appendix and is in hospital having his blood filtered after the op to remove the appendix. So no lesson today. She says that she assumed it wasn't as severe as it really was because he didn't moan as much as he does when he has a mild cold or something. Trust men to be otherwise, hmmm?
  5. Joe didn't want to go to school today and yowled like a mad creature.
  6. Joe also yowled yesterday at random intervals and then expired in the late afternoon after too much sun. He woke up and then wouldn't go to sleep at bedtime and serenaded us with more yowling from the bedroom.
  7. Seb did his reading test on Monday and is at 8 year old reading level.Seb has his CITO tests this week and he is being tested with the 6 year olds.
  8. He's doing his independent maths testing today too with the deputy head teacher and we'll see what age level that is at.
  9. I am still stitching the murderous model and I now have half a pear tree and two flower pots and some text to finish.

  10. We got our (very expensive) sunshade installed on Monday. But, (why is there always a but involved in dealing with workmen??) if the sunshade is down the door doesn't open, kind of obviating the use of the sunshade. After all, if its sunny enough for a shade, its sunny enough that you want the door open! Gaaah! I complained yesterday. They are coming on Tuesday or Wednesday to take it down and re-position it.

  11. We are planning to go hire a pedalo in the lakes in the Amsterdam forest tomorrow. Brad claims his shoulder precludes him from rowing, but I don't think there is anything wrong with his legs ;)
