In Pursuit of a Piano

Sebastian will be learning to play piano now that he is five so I've been looking for a decent proposition to hire/buy. Found some nice ones at Clavis so we're off to take a look tomorrow. We can hire to buy with 0% interest which makes it a pretty good purchase option. Right now I'm leaning toward a new Yamaha C109 or otherwise we'll look at their second hand pianos and see what the tone is like.

I've been doing some research on exams too. The Music School here follows the HaFa exams which are odd and nothing like the Royal School of Music exams which I followed the curriculum for so I'm a bit bemused. If its like any other school in the NL they wouldn't let Seb progress to a higher grade even if he was ready until his whole age group moved. Its not a good option for someone who learns fast to follow that sort of system.

I've mailed the ABRSM examiner here to find out what they recommend and whether they recommend children following both curricula concurrently. If they do, that's what we'll do. If not I might just teach him myself and look for an independent music teacher, although that takes away from the experience of learning with other kids. Decisions, decisions. Tomorrow we go to the Clavis showroom and then in the afternoon to the Music School for their open day.
