Baby tooth blues...

I went into Amsterdam this morning to have the next stage of my dental implant done. For those who don't get to see me often, and might not know, I had an incisor removed last year in August and I've been having the implant procedure done since then. It was a baby tooth that never came out as the adult tooth didn't develop. Finally after 30 years it gave up the ghost so I had to make a choice about what to have done to fill the gap.

The sequence of events has been:

  • Tooth removed in August, left to heal until early December.
  • Metal screw inserted in jawbone through incision in gum in December, left to heal until now.
  • Cap placed on the metal screw today by incising the gum and attaching the cap to the screw today. Must heal for 2 weeks, then I can have the impression made for the tooth.
  • Two weeks later I get my new tooth! I can't wait!
Its odd but people view you differently when you have a tooth missing. I think they think that you either can't afford to get it fixed, or couldn't be bothered (not sure which is worse). Not to mention that spit falls out your mouth when you least expect it to and that you can't say 'th' properly anymore! Only a bit longer and these will no longer be my problems :)
